Men's Tennis to Host Ragin' Cajuns

New Orleans - The New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team (4-3) continues their mid-season home stretch on Sunday when they take on the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns. The match is slotted for a 2 p.m. start at the University Tennis Center.

The Privateers are coming off a strong 6-1 victory over Belmont on Tuesday. After dropping the doubles point, New Orleans came back with a solid singles performance across the board, sweeping all six matches and taking all three decisions that went three sets.

"We're playing a very strong Lafayette team that's had some great results," said Coach Burzis Kanga. "It's huge for us to be playing this match at home and it will take a combined effort to win. Everyone has to play at a high level, execute, and be consistent."

The freshmen continue to make their mark in singles. Alexis Guedy and Johannes Klein are both 4-1 in decisions heading into Sunday. Guedy and Klein have also served as the Privateers' top pair in the doubles rotation.

Federico Boscarino is unblemished in three singles decisions. Boscarino dealt with an injury earlier this spring but has returned to a couple of grueling tests. Boscarino has been stretched to three sets in both of his singles matches since coming back against Jackson State on Mar. 1.

The two sides have played each other in each of the last two seasons. The Cajuns took a 5-2 decision against New Orleans in 2016. The Privateers returned the favor, winning 4-3 in Lafayette last spring. In that match, Boscarino rallied from a 5-2 deficit in the third set to win in a tiebreak and propel New Orleans to victory.

Louisiana is 11-8 on the season but has lost their last three matches entering Sunday. The Cajuns have dropped a pair of 4-3 decisions to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and DePaul. The Cajuns also came up on the short end of a 4-2 score line against UTSA. Louisiana is 5-7 in matches outside of Lafayete this season.
