Box Score New Orleans - The New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team (4-4) won two singles matches in a rain delayed 5-2 loss to the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns (13-8) on Sunday afternoon at the University Tennis Center.
The Cajuns jumped out on top by acquiring the doubles point, winning 6-0 at number three and 6-3 at the two spot. The Privateers' top tandem of
Federico Boscarino and
Christian Fjeldstad battled to a 4-4 tie with Louisiana's Vlad Kramarov and Elio Lago.
"We put up a good fight against a team that's had some great results," said Coach
Burzis Kanga. "It was a tough match for us. We're going to need a collective effort going forward."
The Cajuns grabbed the first point in singles with a straight set victory at number six. Then the Privateers got on the board when
Alexis Guedy, playing at number three, coasted by Kramarov 6-2, 6-3 to make the overall score 2-1.
The Cajuns sealed the match with the next two points, winning in straight sets at number four and five. Louisiana is 2-1 against Southland competition after the Sunday win.
Though the Cajuns triumphed overall, New Orleans got a couple of strong singles performances. The second point was scored by
Federico Boscarino who won in straight sets, defeating Nico Sojka 6-4, 6-4 at number one singles. Boscarino remains undefeated in singles this spring (4-0)
The last match to finish was the only three-set decision in the singles lineup.
Johannes Klein lost the first set 6-4 and came back to dominate Lago 6-1 in the second set. The deciding set went his opponent's way by a 6-1 score.
Next up for the Privateers is a road match against South Alabama on Thursday, Mar. 15.
