Box Score New Orleans - The New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team (4-8, 0-3) picked up two singles victories in a 5-2 loss to the Abilene Christian Wildcats on Saturday at the University Tennis Center.
The Privateers came close in the doubles point. Abilene Christian earned the first match to finish with a 6-3 win at flight three. Then,
Alexis Guedy and
Johannes Klein responded with a 6-4 decision for the home side in flight two.
The match came down to flight one and the set was nearly fully stretched.
Federico Boscarino and
Christian Fjeldstad battled but came up just short, falling 7-5 to the Wildcats' top duo. Abilene Christian sealed the first point and carried the momentum into singles.
Abilene Christian took the first three singles matches to finish at flight one, four, and six. That left the Privateers 0-2 on the home weekend with the match already decided in the Wildcats' favor.
New Orleans picked up the next two matches to finish. That began with Guedy who engineered a straight set win at flight two. Next to follow was
Giacomo Adoncecchi who rallied back from down a set to win in three.
The last match to finish was firmly in the balance. Klein lost the first set 6-3 but turned the tables in the second set winning by the same score. The third set was taken by Nikolas Moceanu who won the tiebreaker 10-8.
New Orleans' next match will be next Saturday when they face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The match is scheduled for a 12 p.m. start.
