Men's Tennis Welcomes Belmont for Tuesday Duel

New Orleans - The New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team (3-3) will look to continue their winning ways at home on Tuesday afternoon when they square off against the Belmont Bruins at the University Tennis Center. The match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.

The Privateers' three wins this spring have come at home with their most recent, a 6-1 victory last Thursday over Jackson State. Tuesday begins a stretch of five of the next seven matches at home for New Orleans. Their only road trips in that span are to South Alabama and Nicholls.

"I think it's two pretty evenly matched teams," said Coach Burzis Kanga. "It doesn't matter the record. We just have to come prepared to play. Hopefully the weather cooperates, and it will be a good match for us."

Freshmen, Alexis Guedy and Johannes Klein have made an instant impact for New Orleans. The two have paired together at the top doubles spot and are 2-2. In singles, both have posted a 3-1 record. Guedy filled in at number one singles when Federico Boscarino was injured. Klein is back in the three spot in the rotation after being bumped up to number two singles.

This will be the first meeting for the Privateers against the Bruins, which has been a common theme early in the season. Belmont represents the fourth opponent in the first seven matches that the Privateers have not seen.

Belmont has already had a busy spring, playing 13 matches and going 5-8. The Bruins played two matches last Friday and split the results. After a 6-1 loss to Lipscomb, the Bruins came back and swept Martin Methodist 7-0. Belmont has yet to win a road match in seven tries this season.

Marko Ilic leads the Bruins in singles wins with eight. Ilic has played almost exclusively at the two slot in the order. Caio Niel made his spring debut against Martin Methodist, playing at number six singles. Niel went 3-2 in the fall.
