Men's Tennis Sweeps Singles, Defeats Belmont

Box Score New Orleans – The New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team (4-3) swept the board in singles including a trio of three-set victories in a 6-1 triumph over the Belmont Bruins (5-9) on Tuesday afternoon at the University Tennis Center.

Belmont started the day by opening the doubles matches at number one and two. The Bruins took 6-2 decisions on both courts to take the first point of the day. However, once it got to singles, the Privateers pushed momentum to their side.

"It was a really good win for us," said Coach Burzis Kanga. "After the doubles point, I really liked the way they fought. Their mental toughness showed today. I'm very proud of how we performed against a pretty solid team."

It started with Nicolas Kramer who took a straight set victory 6-2, 6-4. Kramer cruised in the first set but was in a battle, up 5-4. Kramer broke serve to win the match and give New Orleans their first point of the day.

Johannes Klein wasn't far behind, winning a straight set decision of his own 6-3, 6-3. Giacomo Adoncecchi battled back from an early deficit to win in straight sets 7-6, 6-4. The Privateers earned the clinching point at number one singles.

Federico Boscarino was pushed to three sets, but prevailed. Boscarino and his opponent, Hendrik Inno held serve against each other through the first 11 games. Boscarino came up with a massive service break to win the first set 7-5. After losing the second set 6-3, Boscarino again was stretched to the limit, but held off Inno at 7-5 to give New Orleans the winning point.

The Privateers swept the remaining two singles matches. Lorenzo Camilli won in three sets, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4. Alexis Guedy bounced back from falling 6-4 in the first set to take the next two sets at 7-6 and 6-2. The win pushed the Privateers' home record to 4-1.

New Orleans is next in action on Sunday when they take on the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns at the University Tennis Center. The match is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.
