Nicolas Kramer earned a victory at flight five in singles, but the New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team (4-10, 0-5) fell 6-1 to the Incarnate Word Cardinals (8-9, 2-0) on Monday at the Mabry Tennis Center. The match closed out the conference slate for New Orleans.
Kramer picked up a win in doubles as well along with
Johannes Klein. The two Germany natives helped New Orleans get a leg up by finishing with a 6-3 win at flight three doubles. However, the Cardinals took the next two matches: 6-3 at flight two and 6-4 in flight one to clinch the doubles point.
All Cardinals' victories came in straight sets in singles. It started with Joey Vatanadilok scoring a 6-2, 6-2 decision at flight four. The Cardinals then got a victory from Francisco Bendana at flight two that pushed the overall score to 3-0. The match was decided at flight three when Sebastian Mortier took a 6-4, 6-4 win.
Kramer's match was the last to finish. After running away with a 6-2 score in the opening set against Nedhim Ahmic, Kramer held for a 6-4 victory in set two. The win for Kramer was his sixth singles victory this season.
The Privateers will miss the Southland Conference tournament for the first time since joining in 2013. New Orleans will wind down the 2018 slate with three non-conference matches. Next weekend will be Senior Day for the Privateers. After hosting Rice on Saturday, New Orleans will have their home finale against Troy on Sunday.
Seniors,
Federico Boscarino and
Giacomo Adoncecchi will be recognized before the Troy match for their careers. The Rice match will begin at 3 p.m. and Senior Day against Troy is scheduled for an 11 a.m. start at the University Tennis Center.
