Volleyball Prepares for Golden Eagle Invitational

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The University of New Orleans (1-3) heads to the Golden Eagle Invitational in the Hooper Eblen Center Friday and Saturday. The Privateers begin day one versus Hampton University (0-3) at 10 a.m. and conclude the day versus host Tennessee Tech University (2-1) at 6 p.m. On Saturday, UNO plays the final game of the tourney, a 4 p.m. match against the University of South Carolina Upstate (0-3).

"It's going to be a competitive road tournament," said head coach Millicent Van Norden. "I'd like to see us play well on the road. I believe our team will be ready to compete and prove we can play well away from our comfort zone. We made some adjustments after Tuesday's match to be more efficient offensively and maintain the dominant presence at the net."

Blessing Dunn is 50 away from 1,000 career digs as a volleyball student-athlete. The senior entered the season as one of just 20 NCAA Division I active student-athletes with 900 or more digs (per VolleyMob).
 
ABOUT NEW ORLEANS
On the year, Dunn is averaging 2.00 kills/set and 3.00 digs. Brianna Vega is hitting .288 on the year and Kaitlyn Grice has 25 total blocks through four matches.
 
Sarah Thomas and Dunn have double-doubles early on this season.
 
ABOUT HAMPTON
The Pirates are 0-3 on the year. Megann Delgado, playing in her first season at Hampton after transferring from Cal State Fullerton, is the biggest gun offensively with team-highs in kills (27), kills per set (2.70) and points (35.0).

Rachel Thomas was named OVC Co-Offensive Player of the Week.
 
ABOUT USC UPSTATE
Outside hitter Payton Duncan paced the Spartan attack in Charlotte with 23 kills and 1.92 kills/set, while also leading the charge defensively with 44 digs and 3.67 digs/set.
