Volleyball Prepares for Busy Week in Conference Play

NEW ORLEANS – The Human Performance Center is going to be a busy place this week, as the University of New Orleans (7-9, 1-1 Southland) volleyball team host a trio of conference games. The Privateers begin with a showdown with Nicholls (2-13, 0-2 Southland) on Tuesday at 6 p.m. followed by a match against Northwestern St. (5-6, 1-0 Southland) Thursday also at 6 p.m., and UNO wraps up a jam-packed week with a match against Southeastern Louisiana (1-11, 0-1 Southland)

LAST TIME THEY MET
The Blue and Silver defeated Nicholls in their only meeting last season 3-2, and against SLU the Privateers won both matches (3-1 and 3-2). Unfortunately, UNO did fall to Northwestern last year 3-1.
 
SCOUTING THE TEAMS
NEW ORLEANS
The Privateers continue their dominance at the net ranking first in the conference in blocks (136.5) and third in opponent hitting percentage (.185). Kaitlyn Grice is continuing to put together a terrific senior season with a .344 hitting percentage (second in SLC), 126 kills, 17 service aces, and 74 total blocks (first in SLC and T-11 in the nation). Brianna Vega is second on the squad in kills with 135 and third in aces with 15. Sarah Thomas is third in the Southland in assists with 441 on the year.
 
Blessing Dunn is closing in on another milestone, she is just 98 kills away from 1,000 with 14 games remaining in the season. Dunn on the year has 141 kills and 18 aces to lead the team.
 
NICHOLLS
The Colonels are led by senior outside hitter Brieanna Hill with 104 kills on the season. With 2.93 kills per set, Katie Jones is ninth in the SLC.
 
NORTHWESTERN STATE
The NSU offense is paced by Reagan Rogers with 132 kills (sixth in SLC) and 13 service aces (ninth in SLC) on the year.
 
SOUTHEASTERN LOUISIANA
Elyssa Purcell is the leader on the team in kills with 86.
