PRIVATEERS LOOK FOR FIRST CONFERENCE WIN OF THE SEASON WHEN MCNEESE COMES TO LAKEFRONT

New Orleans- It will be a clash of two teams in search of their first Southland Conference (SLC) win of the season when New Orleans (4-8, 0-3) faces McNeese State (2-12, 0-3), Saturday, Dec. 12, at Lakefront Arena.  Tipoff is 2 p. m.

The Privateers lost their last outing at home, 79-57, to the Lamar University Cardinals in a game that saw UNO center Shania Woods surpass 1,000 points for her career.   She became the 17th player in program history to surpass 1,000 points.

Woods, who has had 4 double-double performances in the last five games, is 11th in the SLC in scoring (13.5), 2nd in rebounding (9.0)
and hits .456 of her shots from the field, good enough for 6th in the conference.

The Houston, Texas native is the only Privateer averaging double figures in scoring and she is followed in that category by Jada Duncantell at 8.6 points a contest.  The sophomore from Natchitoches, Louisiana leads the team in steals with 2.0 an outing---good enough for 7th in the Southland.

Whitley Larry, who led UNO with 9 rebounds against Lamar, is 9th in the conference in that category averaging 6.5.  The Rayne, Louisiana native leads the Southland Conference in blocked shots with 1.8 blocks a game.

Head coach Keeshawn Davenport remains confident knowing the conference race is in its early stage.

"Obviously we have not started off conference the way we wanted to.  But L. O. S. S. stands for Learning Opportunity Stay Strong.  I will not allow these ladies to drop their heads and all it takes is one game to turn things around so we're going to keep fighting and keep pushing."

Like the Privateers, the Cowgirls have dropped their last four games.  Callie Maddox leads McNeese in scoring hitting 13.6 a game while the leading rebounder is Devine Tanks whose 7.8 average ranks 3rd in the Southland Conference.  She's joined in the rebounding department by Damiloa Balogun who ranks 5th in the SLC at 7.1 rebounds a game.

New Orleans has a four game winning streak in the series.  The Privateers have taken home-and-home series against McNeese the last two seasons.  The last time the clubs met the result was an 84-62 UNO victory at Lakefront Arena on Feb. 17, 2018.

Saturday's match is the opener of a Southland Conference doubleheader.  The University of New Orleans and McNeese State men's teams will tipoff approximately 45 minutes after completion of the women's game.
