Corpus Christi, Texas- The New Orleans Privateers (5-9, 1-4 Southland) will try to pick up another Southland Conference (SLC) win Saturday, Jan. 19, when they head to Corpus Christi, Texas to face the Islanders of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (9-6, 3-1 Southland). Tipoff is set for 2:30 and the game will be televised on ESPN3.

New Orleans lost to Stephen F. Austin their last time on the court after picking up their first conference win of the year over McNeese State, 88-76 back on Jan. 12. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi has won two-in-a-row after defeating Sam Houston State76-61 Wednesday.

Shania Woods, who recently surpassed the 1,000-point mark for her UNO career, leads the Privateers in scoring (13.8) and rebounds (8.9) where she ranks second in the Southland Conference in that category. The Houston, Texas native ranks in the top ten at the University of New Orleans in career rebounds.

Point guard
Jada Duncantell is the next highest scorer for New Orleans at 8.0 and the sophomore from Natchitoches, Louisiana is one of the conference leaders in steals with 32 thus far for an average of 2.1.

Whitley Larry averages 6.5 rebounds and leads the SLC in blocked shots with 27 total for an average of 1.8 a contest.

"The loss to Stephen F. Austin was a pretty big hit," said head coach
Keeshawn Davenport. "With certain teams you just have to let those type of games go and you have to do it quickly. If they hold on to them they and be detrimental to them moving forward."

A&M-CC is one of the best defensive teams in the SLC yielding only 58 points a contest while scoring 66.9 points a game.

Dalesia Booth, a 5' 9" guard who had 21 points and 8 rebounds in the win over Sam Houston State, averages 14.7 points and 5 boards a contest.

Forward Alexes Bryant leads the Islanders in rebounds at 6.3 a game and averages 10.5 points a game. The 6-3 forward is tied with
Whitley Larry of the Privateers with 27 blocks for 1.8 a contest, tops in the Southland Conference.

"They're a real good team and they've played really well at home. They will press and805 of their shots are two-pointers. When they drive to the basket they drive with purpose and looking to score, said Davenport.

Last season the two teams split a couple of home-and-home matchups with New Orleans taking the first game at Lakefront Arena on Jan. 3, 2018, 66-49. The Islanders got a seven-point, 75-68 win Feb. 3, 2018 in Corpus Christi

The New Orleans-A&M-Corpus Christi game is the opener of a Southland Conference doubleheader. Following the women's game, the New Orleans and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men will tangle.
