NEW ORLEANS LOOKS TO REBOUND AGAINST LADY DEMONS IN NATCHITOCHES

New Orleans- The University of New Orleans Privateers (5-12, 1-7 Southland) are looking to "snap out of it."  "It", is a four-game losing streak---and they'll try to bring it to an end, Wednesday, Jan.30, when they travel to Natchitoches to face Northwestern State (7-11, 2-5 Southland) the for a Southland Conference (SLC)contest.  Tipoff is 6:30 p. m.

Despite 27 points from center Shania Woods, the Privateers fell to Incarnate Word, 81-69 last Saturday.  Northwestern State halted a four-game skid of its own last time out with a 58-47 victory over Southeastern Louisiana.

The 27-point performance against UIW was a season-high for UNO's leading scorer Shania Woods.  The Houston, Texas native averages 14.3 points and is the conference's second-leading rebounder with 8.5 a game.  Woods has recorded 7 double-doubles (double figures in points and rebounds).

Shania Woods became the 17th Privateer to reach the 1,000-point mark earlier this season and with 762 career rebounds, she is now fourth on the all-time rebounder's list at New Orleans.

Lately Woods has had help in the frontcourt.  6-5 sophomore Kayla Thomas has started the last three games and during that time the Philadelphia, Pa. native has averaged 12 points and 7 rebounds while playing an average of 17 minutes.  Thomas is shooting 50% from the field (48-of-96) and 50% from beyond the 3-point arch (2-of-4).

6-1 forward Whitley Larry is the Southland Conference leader in blocked shots with 32 total (1.8).  She is averaging 6.6 rebounds an outing.

Junior guard Alyssa Quixley leads the team in long-range shooting hitting 40% of her 3-point shots (19-of-48), good enough for 4th in the Southland, while sophomore guard Jada Duncantell is fifth in the SLC in steals at 2.2 a game.

The Lady Demons will come to the Lakefront led by freshman guard RaVon Nero, the club's leading scorer at 12.1ppg.  Junior guard Kira Bonner is also a double-figure scorer at 10.5 points.

Last season the clubs split a home-and-home situation with the Privateers winning at Lakefront, 81-63 while the Demons won in Natchitoches, 52-47.
