Baton Rouge- Pole vaulter
Jordan Courtois and shot putter
Danielle Lorenz carried the banner for the University of New Orleans track and field teams Friday at the Bayou Bengal Invitational by setting program-records in their events.
Courtois, a senior, tied the school mark of 10' 11.75" last week at the KMS Invitational in Birmingham. This week she cleared 11' 2.50". The previous mark was set by Bailey Daigle in 2015.
Privateer track and field coach
Brian Johnson wasn't surprised that the New Iberia, Louisiana native is in the record book.
"Jordan was determined today. She had it set in her mind that she was going to break the record today, and she did it. I'm super proud of her."
Lorenz, out of Dardanelle, Arkansas, shattered the standard she set last Sunday at the KMS Meet by 1' 3". Her performance in Baton Rouge was 48' 6".
"That's why we brought her here, she's a game-changer. She's here to be successful in the shot put and that was our main goal in getting her here because we knew she could finish either first or second in the conference."
The Southland Conference Indoor Championships are set for the Birmingham Crossplex Arena, Sunday and Monday, Feb. 24-25.
"We are getting better as a team week-by-week," said Johnson. "We had a pretty decent meet. We're trying to get all of our people ready for the Conference Meet later this month."
NEXT UP
New Orleans will hit the track again, Friday, Feb. 8, when they travel to Birmingham, Alabama for the Bulldog Invitational. Samford University is the host school.
