NEW ORLEANS – Ben Stumm and
Anais Sulpice won the first races of their collegiate careers, and the Privateers set 12 different personal bests on a successful afternoon at the Cameron Burrell Invitational on Thursday.
Stumm and Sulpice led strong Privateer efforts at 1,500 meters on Thursday afternoon. Ben won the first race of his young career after finishing with a time of 4:03.88 and set a new personal best in the process.
Antonio Delgado was the second to cross the finish line with a time of 4:12.22 – his second consecutive week with a personal best.
Landen Juneau,
Kenneth Cerrato, and
Henry Livingston finished fourth, fifth, and sixth with times of 4:13.43, 4:13.99, and 4:23.73.
Chey Bridges added the third personal best for the UNO men at 1,500 meters when he finished seventh in 4:28.60 – a six-second improvement for the freshman.
Competing in her first career 1,500-meter race, Sulpice took home first place with a time of 4:32.80. Her time is a top-20 mark in school history and places the graduate student eighth on UNO's all-time performance list.
Petra Imre finished fifth in 4:43.19, Michaela Papalia finished seventh in 4:46.32, and
Alexa Daverio finished 10th in 4:59.73. Both Imre's and Daverio's times were new personal bests by four seconds.
At 800 meters, five different Privateers had top-seven finishes.
Brandt Blanchard finished in second place with a time of 1:51.07 – a top-30 time in school history – and
Grant Young finished fourth in 2:01.19. In the women's race,
London Parker finished third in 2:18.89,
Erin Grime finished fifth in her first collegiate 800 with a time of 2:19.77, and
Candilynn Vega finished seventh in 2:27.79.
The Privateer 200 group continued their strong season to close out the Cameron Burrell Invitational.
Olamipo Ladipo finished sixth in 20.80 – tied for the eighth-fastest time in school history and four hundredths of a second from matching his personal best.
Keldrick Turner finished seventh in 20.82 – a new personal best that places him fourth on UNO's all-time performance list.
Daryl Bachmann won his heat in 21.14 and set a new personal best by three-tenths of a second.
LeeAira Williams finished eighth with a time of 24.13 – the fourth-fastest time in UNO history and a new personal best.
Katie Burnett also set a new personal best at 200 meters with a time of 26.25 on Thursday afternoon.
Other personal bests set by New Orleans student-athletes at Carl Lewis International Track Complex include:
Serenity Harris (400M – 1:10.15),
Tyler Mitchell (JT – 45.85m), and
Agathe Tronchon (400H – 1:03.00).
Antonio Creger finished just shy of a personal best in discus with a toss of 40.82m on Wednesday afternoon. His personal best remains 40.84m at the Andy Theil Season Opener.
