DAY ONE RESULTS
Matthews, Louisiana - Senior
Jackson Smith leads the way for the University of New Orleans after two rounds of the LaTour Intercollegiate at LaTour Golf Club in Matthews, Louisiana.
After 36 holes of the 54-hole event, Smith shot a second round, 4-under 68 over the par 72 course. Coupled with a round-one, 3-over 75, the Tyler, Texas product is at 1-under, 143, sixth place on the leaderboard, three shots off the lead behind four players tied for second at 3-under, 141.
Smith, who had 5 birdies and one bogey during the second round, likes the course in Lafourche Parish. Two weeks ago he was the lowest-scoring Privateer at the LaTour Collegiate Challenge with a 1-over 73 over 18 holes.
"He hit it good this morning during the first round but he missed some opportunities with the putter," said head coach
Jeff Lorio. "But the putter got hot during the first nine holes of the second 18. He turned in 32, and made another birdie on his 11
th hole. That's what we are looking for from a senior."
Â
Max Hellstrom (76-77) was the next lowest scorer for the Privateers at 9-over 153.Â
Brady Bennett (80-76) finished at 12-over 156. Freshman
Grayson Gilbert (79-80) was at 15-over 159. Sophomore
Nolan Lambert (87-81) came in at +24.
New Orleans sits 10
th in the 12-team field with a two-round total of 35-over par, 611, 30 strokes behind team-leader the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley at 5-over, 581.
"The conditions today were rough. It was cold and rainy for the first 11 or 12 holes and I don't think we were mentally tough enough to answer those conditions. Hopefully we can get off to a better start tomorrow and catch some of the teams in front of us," said Lorio.
Day Two of the LaTour Intercollegiate will be an 18-hole third round affair teeing off Tuesday morning at 8 a. m.
