NEW ORLEANS PRIVATEERS SHOOT FOR THREE-IN-A-ROW WHEN NORTHWESTERN STATE COMES TO TOWN

New Orleans- For the first time this season, the University of New Orleans (7-12, 3-7 Southland) has a two-game winning streak.  They'll go for three-in-a-row, Wednesday, Feb. 6, at 7 p.m. when the Lady Demons of Northwestern State (7-13, 2-7 Southland) come to Lakefront Arena.

Less than one week ago, UNO defeated Northwestern State in Natchitoches, 67-62.  It was the first of two consecutive Southland Conference (SLC) wins as New Orleans defeated Incarnate Word for two-in-a-row, last Saturday, 58-55.

"We need to make a push to get to Katy (SLC Tournament) so those two wins in a row couldn't have come at a better time," said head coach Keeshawn Davenport.  "Not only was it two-in-a-row but one at home and one on the road!  It's always good when you can win on the road in conference."

UNO was outstanding defensively against the Incarnate Word holding them to 14.3% shooting in the fourth quarter and 35% (17-of-48) for the day.

Senior center Shania Woods is ranked in the top ten in the Southland Conference in four categories: 10th in scoring (14.3), 2nd in rebounds (8.5), 9th in field goal percentage (47%) and 7th in minutes played (30.8).

The Houston, Texas native has recorded eight games in double figures in points and rebounds, has surpassed 1,000 career-points and is currently 4th among all-time rebounders at UNO with 778.

"She's so consistent.  Shania has been a consistent inside presence for us both scoring and rebounding.  She'll be remembered as one of those players that left an impact on the program."

Jada Duncantell, who started the first 14 games of the season but has come off the bench the last five games, is the next leading scorer at 8 points a contest.  The Natchitoches, Louisiana native had 14 points in her home town in the win over Northwestern State.

Redshirt-sophomore Kayla Thomas was moved into the starting lineup 5 games ago.  Since that time, the 6-5 Philadelphia, Pennsylvania product has averaged 11 points and 5.2 rebounds.  Thomas had a career-high 20 points against Central Arkansas.

Whitley Larry continues to lead the SLC in blocked shots with 36 on the season.   The Rayne, Louisiana product is 7th in the conference in rebounding with 6.7 a game.

Northwestern State is coming off a 22-point thrashing at the hands of Central Arkansas, 74-52.  In the game the Demons got 16 points from freshman guard RaVon Nero, the team's leading scorer at 12.4 a game.  Kira Bonner is the next top scorer on the roster averaging 10.1 a game.
