NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers men's and women's tennis teams both head to west Texas to face the Abilene Christian Wildcats on Sunday. Both matches are scheduled for a 12 p.m. start.
MEN'S PREVIEW
The Privateers (6-10, 0-1) will look to shake off a tough loss at home against SMU on Friday. This match is one of only two remaining on the road for New Orleans.
Doubles has provided some strong results for the Privateers who have secured three straight matches worth of doubles points. All three teams who have played together have winning records.
Samuel Armand and
Johannes Klein have eight wins while
Mats Westkamp and
Misha Fomenkov also have eight wins.
The Privateers are also looking to get on the mark in Southland play. Their lone conference match was a 4-3 loss against Lamar.
Abilene Christian (15-4, 1-0) will play their second conference match after a strong out-of-conference showing. Their only losses were to Florida State, Oklahoma, Tulsa, and Texas A&M. The Wildcats swept Nicholls on Friday 7-0.
Josh and Jonathan Sheehy have been a staple in the Wildcats' lineup. Josh has a 12-4 singles record while Jonathan has a 10-6 mark. Dimitris Azoides is 14-5 across four different flights this spring.
WOMEN'S PREVIEW
The Privateers women's tennis team (9-6, 2-3) looks to keep their momentum going against a still unblemished in conference Abilene Christian.
New Orleans won the first four points in Friday's victory over UIW. As a team, the Privateers are a combined 28-10 in doubles this season.
Trang Dao and
Ank Vullings have an 8-2 record in doubles this season (all at flight one).
In singles, Dao, Vullings, and
Salma Abdelrahim all have seven victories. Sunday's match is the second of a six-match road trip for the Privateers.
Abilene Christian (9-8, 5-0) defeated Nicholls 6-1 on Friday. The Wildcats won their first two conference matches by 4-3 score lines over Southeastern and Sam Houston State. Since then, they've lost just two points in three conference matches.
Jordan Henry leads the way in singles victories this spring with 10. Allison Stewart follows with eight victories on the year. Three more Wildcats check in with seven triumphs. In doubles, the Wildcats are 22-17 combined in doubles.
