NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team will take a brief break from conference when they face off against crosstown foe, Tulane on Tuesday at City Park. The match is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.
The Privateers are coming back after a busy week that saw some quick turnarounds. This will be the third match in five days. New Orleans played at home last Friday against SMU, then traveled to Abilene Christian on Sunday.
Odysseas Papaioannou ran his overall record to 7-7 and his conference mark to 2-0 after Sunday's match against Abilene Christian. The true freshman has played most of his matches at flight six and has accrued a 5-4 mark in that spot.
Samuel Armand and
Johannes Klein continue to be strong in doubles, sporting a 9-5 mark after Sunday. Six of those victories have come at flight two.
Misha Fomenkov and
Mats Westkamp are 8-5 in doubles at flight one.
It has been a while since the Privateers and Green Wave matched up on the tennis court. The last meeting between the two sides was on Jan. 27, 2013, a match that Tulane won. The Green Wave have won eight of the last nine meetings.
Tulane (10-11, 2-2) has won back-to-back matches heading into play this week. The Green Wave defeated nationally ranked Tulsa last Friday and followed up with a 5-2 win over SMU on Sunday. Tulane is 6-2 at home this season.
Tim Reutzel leads the team in wins this spring with 11. Luis Erlenbusch has added 10 wins. The Green Wave as a team are 67-45 in singles play collectively this season. Erlenbusch (#96) is one of two Green Wave players ranked in the top 100 in singles along with Ewan Moore (#64).
