NORMAN, Okla. – Privateer golfer,
Max Hellstrom was named a Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America scholar. He was one of a record setting 540 golfers to earn the academic accolade. The award has been given out annually since 1982.
To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically in Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their Associate's Degree and in there last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA.
In addition, they participate in 50-percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II, 78.0 in NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, 77.0 in NJCAA, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
Hellstrom was also named First Team All-Academic by the Southland Conference. The Sweden native also earned a spot on the All-Conference Third Team. During his junior year, Hellstrom recorded a 3.88 cumulative GPA.
His junior year was filled with on-course achievements as well. Hellstrom finished inside the top 20 in five tournaments. His fifth-place finish at the Southland Championships in April matched the highest finish by a Privateer golfer since New Orleans joined the Southland Conference. Hellstrom also finished the year ranked inside the Top 15 in the Southland by Golfstat.
