NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team thrived in the first day of competition at the Scramble on the Bayou. The squad which features four newcomers (three of whom played) collectively won every set in singles and doubles.
NOTE
Prairie View had to withdraw from the event due to the flooding from Imelda. That left the field at three teams (New Orleans, Nicholls, Jackson State). Therefore, there will not be any team scores from the event.
DOUBLES
Mats Westkamp and
Austin Vos debuted with a pair of wins at the top flight in doubles. They defeated Nicholls 6-2 and Jackson State 6-3.
Also,
Misha Fomenkov and
Johannes Klein had a 2-0 day in doubles. They posted a pair of victories by identical margins (6-3) in their matches on the day.
Espen Lagarde and
Mihajlo Drobnjakovic topped Omar Morsy and Antoine Martin of Nicholls 6-4 during the early session.
SINGLES
No Privateer lost a set in matches against Jackson State and Nicholls during the afternoon session. Vos, Klein, and Lagarde all turned in victories against opponents from Jackson State.
Westkamp, Fomenkov, and Drobnjakovic all put up victories against Southland foe, Nicholls. Drobnjakovic in his singles debut, won his first set 6-0 and followed up with a 6-3 mark against Collin Scheufler of the Colonels.
Westkamp prevailed in a tiebreaker after coasting by two breaks in the first set against Pavle Drobnjakovic. After winning the first set 6-2, Westkamp controlled the tiebreak in the second set by a 7-3 score.

The Scramble on the Bayou concludes on Saturday. Matches start at 10 a.m.
