Vos, Lagarde Win Two Doubles Matches on Final Day of USM Invitational

HATTIESBURG, Miss.Austin Vos and Espen Lagarde provided early headlines for the New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team on the final day of competition at the USM Invitational on Sunday afternoon.

Vos and Lagarde won both of their doubles matches in the first two sessions of the day. Mihajlo Drobnjakovic closed the day with a strong showing in singles against South Alabama.

DOUBLES (VS. UAB/ALABAMA & USM/WILLIAM CAREY)
Vos and Lagarde engineered a pair of doubles victories to start the day. The pair of Privateer newcomers took down Givoani Pasini and Tom El Safadi by a demonstrative 8-2 score line.

Later in the day, Vos and Lagarde took home another win. This time, they beat the combination tandem of Matthieu Peres (USM) and Atikan Juprang (William Carey) by an 8-4 score.

Johannes Klein and Misha Fomenkov gave valiant efforts in both doubles matches, but they fell on the short end of a single break in both matches by a score of 8-6.

SINGLES VS. SOUTH ALABAMA
The weekend closed with another tough assignment against the Jaguars. Drobnjakovic won his singles match in straight sets after getting off to a lightning quick start. He did not relinquish a single game to senior, Ezra Blissard in the first set. The second set saw Drobnjakovic finish out strong in a tiebreak for a 6-0, 7-6 (7-2) win.

South Alabama took the remaining four singles matches, but the Privateers provided a stern test. Fomenkov and Lagarde each extended their respective matches to third set tiebreaks.

FROM COACH KANGA
"I come away from this weekend feeling like we can play with some of the best," said Coach Burzis Kanga. This is a team that I think will be ranked inside the top 50 when everyone is healthy. We played a lot of tennis in hot conditions this weekend. I'm pleased overall with the way we played."
