NEW ORLEANS – Those tuned in were treated to highly competitive sets of volleyball as the Silver Striking Swords edged out Navy Battleship 25-23, 25-21, 25-23 in an intrasquad contest on Sunday morning at the Human Performance Center.
Team Silver converted on their third match point to close out when
Trinity Jackson scored her ninth kill of the match. There were 24 ties and 12 lead changes throughout the match. Seven of those lead changes came in the final set.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Nia St. Cyr led on the day with 11 kills for Team Silver.
Sh'Diamond Holly was in double figures as well with 10 for Team Navy and a match-best nine blocks. Jackson had seven digs to go along with her nine kills.
Atira Jells and
Kolbi Reed had eight kills each.
Kai Williams,
Alexis Parrish, and
Rani Williams had six kills each for Team Navy.
Agnieska Paskevic had 33 assists and a match-high four aces. She and
Hannah Volpi co-led in digs with 14 apiece.
Lucie Pokorna had nine digs, 24 assists, and two kills.
Shelby Pullins had six total blocks to lead Team Silver.
Sheilah Purcell had nine digs and four assists on the day. Assistant coach,
Andrea Nava played for Team Silver and registered four digs.
NOTES
Team Silver got out to a quick 6-1 lead in the opening set but Team Navy stormed back to a 19-15 lead. The set ended on a 9-2 run by Team Silver which was keyed by three consecutive blocks.
The second set was a continuation as Team Silver raced to a 12-6 advantage. Team Navy fought back to tie the score at 18-18 but Team Silver closed by scoring the last four points of the set. Two Jackson kills came in that stretch.
UP NEXT
The Privateers will play their season in the spring. There is one non-conference match scheduled at Southern Miss on Jan. 22. Conference play starts on Feb. 2 at Lamar.
