NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans women's basketball program will get its much anticipated 2020-21 season underway as the Privateers play host to Texas State on Saturday, Nov. 28 at the UNO Lakefront Arena. Tip off for the nonconference clash is set for noon central.
The Privateers are coming off one of the best seasons in program history. New Orleans made the Southland Postseason Tournament for the fourth straight year in 2019-20 and posted the program's highest win total since 1992-93. Included in that mark were 12 Southland victories, the most conference wins for the program in a single season in school history.
New Orleans returns just five of its 13 letterwinners from a year ago, but each returner (Dionjhae Thomas,
Jada Duncantell,
Mia Deck,
Mary Delgado and
Traya Bruce) has handled starter minutes during their career. The team also reloaded with one of the most talented and deepest recruiting classes in program history with the addition of 11 newcomers.
The game will also serve as the season-opener for the Bobcats program, who was selected to finish fifth overall in the Sun Belt Conference Preseason Poll. Texas State is coming off a 13-17 mark from a year ago which includes escaping with a 51-49 victory when the Privateers made the trip to San Marcos back on Nov. 27, 2020 last season.
It will be just the second meeting between the two programs in school history and will be the first game played on the new UNO Lakefront Arena court.
The game will be streamed live and for free at UNOPrivateers.com/watch.
