Box Score STARKVILLE, Miss. – A short-handed New Orleans women's basketball program fought hard against one of the top teams in the nation but a short bench wasn't going to be a recipe for much success as the No. 6 Mississippi State Bulldogs handed the Privateers a 106-51 defeat in a non-conference matchup at the Humphrey Coliseum on Wednesday evening.

THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: New Orleans – 51, Mississippi State - 106
LOCATION: Humphrey Coliseum – Starkville, Mississippi
RECORDS: New Orleans (1-1/0-0 SLC), Mississippi State (2-0/0-0 SEC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Despite a strong start from the Privateers, an 8-0 run halfway through the first would propel the Bulldogs to a 25-9 lead after the first quarter.
  • New Orleans fought back hard in the second with 19 points but Mississippi State was able to add 32 of its own to take 57-28 lead into the half.
  • It continued to be all Bulldogs in the third as Mississippi State was up 83-42 after three.
  • Mississippi State recorded a 23-9 edge in the final frame to close out the 106-51 victory.

GAME NOTES
  • Dionjhae Thomas led the Privateers in scoring as the senior small forward recorded 11 points to go with two rebounds and two assists. She hit 5-of-8 attempts from the line and has now knocked down nine free throws through the first two contests.
  • In just her second game as a NCAA Division I student-athlete, Erin Randle posted 10 points (on 4-of-7 shooting from the field) along with a team-high six rebounds.
  • Jada Duncantell chipped in 9 points (4-of-7 from the field) and a team-high three assists.
  • Traya Bruce continued her hot start to the season as she added seven points.
  • It was the first time the Privateers allowed 100 or more points to an opponent since a 100-77 loss to Southland rival Lamar back on Jan. 3, 2018. New Orleans has allowed the opposition to reach the 100-point plateau just twice since rejoining the NCAA DI ranks.
  • The Privateers shot 32.1 percent from the field (17-of-53) and 72.2 from the charity stripe (13-of-18).
  • New Orleans's bench scored 13 points, the second straight game the second unit has reached double-digits.
  • The Privateers had just nine players on hand to compete against one of the best teams in the country.

FOR THE FOES
  • Jessika Carter led the way for the Mississippi State offense as she scored a game-high 23 points on 9-of-12 shooting. She added 10 rebounds for the double-double.
  • JaMya Mingo-Young was a force as well as she put up 18 points on an 8-of-9 performance from the field to go with eight rebounds and five assists.
  • As a team the Bulldogs shot 62.9 percent from the field. Mississippi State scored 72 points in the paint, had 23 second-chance points and 51 total rebounds. The Bulldogs had one less offensive rebound than the Privateers had made field goals.
