Track & Field Sets New Program Bests for Points Scored at Southland Indoor Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The New Orleans track & field team set new program bests on both the men's and women's side for most points scored at an indoor championship meet since joining the conference as the Privateers concluded the 2020 Southland Conference Indoor Championships at the Birmingham Crossplex on Monday.

NOTEABLES
- Danielle Lorenz placed third in the women's shot put after she recorded a best toss of 14.49m (47-06.50). It is the second straight year that the senior thrower has claimed the third spot in the event at the indoor championships. - Arina Kleshchukova took fifth overall in a stacked 3000-meter final with a 10:02.47 performance. The distance standout ended her first indoor championship with the Privateers with an individual title in the 5000-meter and she anchored the seventh-place DMR team. She was responsible for 16 of New Orleans 22 points on the women's side.
- Kolyn Saltzman had a big showing in the men's 3000-meter final as he claimed sixth overall with a time of 8:37.12.
- The men's 20 points and the women's 22 points were the most scored in program history since the Privateers joined the Southland Conference. The previous highs were 14 for the men and 21.5 for the women, both set at the 2015 Indoor Championships.
- Individual scorers on the men's side included Aaron Worrell (six points in the long and five in the high jump), Vojislav Gvero (six in the weight throw) and Saltzman (three in the 3000).
- The women's squad was led by Kleshchukova (14 between two individual events), Lorenz (six in the shot) and the Privateers DMR group (two points).
 
COACHES CORNER UP NEXT
The indoor season is officially over as the Privateers will turn their attention towards outdoor competition. New Orleans gets the outdoor season underway with the McNeese Cowboy Relays on Friday, March 13 through Saturday, March 14.
