NEW ORLEANS — The University of New Orleans track and field program set two school records and won four medals on the final day of the 2026 Southland Outdoor Championships.

The men's 4x100-meter relay team of Yoran Kabengele-Kabala, Olamipo Ladipo, Keldrick Turner and Daryl Bachmann got things started with a flourish on Saturday evening at Bryce Homer Stadium. The quartet set a school record with a time of 39.40, narrowly surpassing the previous mark of 39.41 set by Christopher Murphy, John Adesola, Darryl George Jr. and Madonna Favour at the 2024 NCAA East Regional. The relay team currently ranks No. 17 in the NCAA East Region.

Moments later, Turner set another school record while winning the gold medal in the 400 meters with a time of 45.183. Keldrick held off a late charge from Northwestern State's William Achee, who finished just behind him in 45.188.

The graduate student's time ranks as the second-fastest in Southland Outdoor Championship history, trailing only Leonard Byrd of UTSA, who ran a 44.88 in 1996. It also stands as the third-fastest 400-meter time in conference history. Turner has now broken UNO's 400-meter record three times this season and currently ranks No. 13 nationally.

Turner added a third medal later in the evening with a strong finish in the 200-meter final. His time of 20.61 earned a third-place finish and set a new personal best. The mark is the fifth fastest in UNO history and moves him to No. 2 on UNO's all-time performance list behind fellow All-American Ismael Kone.

Kabengele-Kabala earned his second Southland medal with a third-place finish in the 100 meters. The freshman from France posted a time of 10.24 seconds, good for a top-25 mark in program history and just four hundredths of a second shy of his personal best set in April at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays. He also added another point for the Privateer men with an eighth-place finish in the 200-meter final.

The women's 4x100-meter relay team scored the first three points of the meet for the UNO women with a sixth-place finish in 47.34 seconds, finishing ahead of HCU, UIW and Nicholls.

Anais Sulpice continued the scoring for the Privateer women with a sixth-place finish in the 1500 meters in a personal-best 4:29.43. She also placed eighth in the 800 meters in 2:15.56, earning a combined four points.

The women's 4x400-meter relay team posted a time of 3:49.52, the sixth-fastest mark in school history and fourth on UNO's all-time performance list, while earning the women's eighth point of the meet. The men's 4x400-meter relay team added two points to their tally with a seventh-place finish in 3:15.55.

Freshmen Alexa Daverio (19:04.05) and Landen Juneau (16:07.11) both set new personal bests in their 5000-meter races.

The New Orleans men finished ninth with 33 points, ahead of Southeastern, McNeese and Nicholls. The total marked a 14-point improvement, and a two-place jump from last season's Southland Outdoor Championships. The UNO women finished 12th with eight points.

Stephen F. Austin won the men's championship with 164 points, while Northwestern State captured the women's title with 147.5 points

The NCAA East Regional will be held May 27-30 in Lexington, Kentucky, and hosted by the University of Kentucky. Kabengele-Kabala is expected to represent UNO in the 100 meters, while Turner is expected to compete in the 400 meters. Daryl Bachmann and Olamipo Ladipo will join those two with the quartet expected to run the 4x100 meter relay in Lexington as well.

Official qualification lists will be announced by the NCAA on Monday. The top 48 student-athletes in each event in the East Region will qualify for the meet in Lexington, while the top 48 in the West Region will compete in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The top 24 relay teams in each region will qualify, with each school limited to one relay entry per event.
