DAY TWO RESULTS: MileSplit
NEW ORLEANS - For the second straight day at the Southland Outdoor Championships,
Keldrick Turner,
Yoran Kabengele-Kabala and
Anais Sulpice qualified for event finals after strong performance at Homer Bryce Stadium on Friday evening.
Turner qualified for his second Southland Conference finals appearance after winning his 400-meter heat in 47.94. His time was the 24th-fastest in school history and would rank fifth on UNO's all-time performance list if the graduate student did not already own the top two times in program history.
Nyah Harrison was the fastest Privateer in the women's 400 meters, finishing 18th overall in 56.93.
Katie Burnett posted a personal-best time of 1:00.83, improving by two seconds.
Serenity Harris finished in 1:01.86.
Kabengele-Kabala also qualified for a second Southland finals appearance after winning his 100-meter heat Saturday evening. He held off UIW's Devin Gills and finished in 10.30. The time would rank eighth on UNO's all-time performance list if Kabengele-Kabala did not already rank fifth.
Daryl Bachmann finished 11th with a strong performance, clocking a 10.45, while
Olamipo Ladipo placed 12th in 10.484. Both narrowly missed qualifying for the 100-meter finals.
Sulpice became the third double finalist for the Privateers with a steady performance in her 800-meter preliminary race. She finished in 2: 11.20 only trailing Texas A&M-Corpus Christi standout Elizabeth Khatevi.
Her time was the fifth-fastest mark among all 800-meter runners on Friday and the sixth-fastest in school history. Sulpice's personal-best time of 2:10.12 at this season's Raleigh Relays is the fourth fastest in school history and second on UNO's all-time performance list.
Brandt Blanchard led the UNO men in the 800 with an 11th-place finish in 1:51.98, faster than Stephen F. Austin's Keyshawn Garcia, who earned an automatic qualifying spot by winning section three.
Jose Manuel Rodriguez finished 18th in 1:53.60, while
Grant Young placed 34th in 2:02.37.
UNO runners will compete in six Southland Championship finals on Saturday evening in Nacogdoches. Turner will race in the 400-meter finals at 4:30 p.m. and the 200-meter finals at 5:40 p.m. Kabengele-Kabala also will compete in the 200-meter finals before racing in the 100-meter finals at 6:30 p.m. Sulpice will run in the 1500-meter finals at 5:20 p.m. before competing in the 800-meter finals at 6:40 p.m.
