Track & Field Adds Another DI Transfer in Torry Holmes from UTRGV

The talent continues to roll in as director of track & field Brian Johnson adds another talented and experienced transfer to his program in Holmes from UTRGV.

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans track & field program continued to add to what has turned into a very promising roster with the addition of NCAA Division I transfer Torry Holmes from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, made official by director of track & field Brian Johnson on Tuesday.

"I am excited to add Torry to our men's program," Johnson said. "He is young and an extremely hard worker and will provide the boost we need in the men's 110-meter hurdles. He is another important piece to our growing program."

The Miami, Fla. native competed in three indoor meets during his freshman year at UTRGV, highlighted by a ninth-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles at the 2020 WAC Indoor Championships. Holmes set a collegiate personal best of 8.33 in the event at Texas A&M's Ted Nelson Invitational in mid-January. That mark ranks third all-time in Vaqueros program history.

He was also a member of UTRGV's Spring Athletic Director's Honor Roll.

Holmes attended Miami Northwestern High School where he finished second in the region and fifth in the state of Florida in the 110-meter hurdles as a senior. With his performance, he helped his team win the Class 3A Championships.
