NEW ORLEANS – All three Privateer women in competition at the Raleigh Relays this weekend set personal bests with a trio of excellent showings in North Carolina.
Graduate student Erin Grime was the first Privateer to set a new personal best after her 1500M race on Friday afternoon. Her time of 4:42.95 was third-fastest in her section and a nine-second improvement on her time at last week's Louisiana Classic.
Michela Papalia was up next with an impressive performance in her 5000mM race. The sophomore finished second in her section with a time of 17:33.81, beating her previous personal best set at last season's Joe Walker Invitational by a minute.
Michi's time was the 14th-fastest 5K in school history, and she now sits No. 9 on UNO's all-time performance list. Papalia has the fastest time in the Southland this season by over 30 seconds.
Anais Sulpice capped off the personal-best streak for the Privateer women with an outstanding performance in the 800M. Sulpice won section seven in a time of 2:10.12. That time is the third-fastest in school history and places her No. 2 on UNO's all-time performance list behind only Sophia Wolf.
Sulpice sits No. 2 in the Southland in the 800M, trailing only UTRGV's Kailey Salazar, who finished in 2:09.06 at ACU's Wes Kittley Invite. As it stands, she also sits No. 9 in the South Central Region and No. 25 on the NCAA East qualifying list.
On the men's side, Brandt Blanchard finished his 800M in 1:51.52, placing third in his section. Jose Manuel Rodriguez finished his 800M in 1:52.68, placing fourth in his section. Rodriguez remains No. 1 in the Southland with a time of 1:49.71 set last week at LSU, while Blanchard remains No. 2 with a time of 1:50.87—also set last week in Baton Rouge. Blanchard finished 35th in a field of 193 runners, with Rodriguez finishing 43rd.
