PENSACOLA, Fla. – The New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team took the top three spots and the Privateers had a third place finish from one of their teams in the Bluewater Bay Classic over the weekend.
The format saw both teams broken up into flights (three for the men, two for the women). Points were tallied and sets won were used as tiebreakers.
MEN'S TEAMS FINISH 1-2-3
Espen Lagarde and
Marcel Volz were the duo that took the top spot in the standings facing competition from West Florida and West Alabama.
Lagarde rallied back for a three-set win in singles while he and Volz won both doubles matches during the first day of competition. For the tournament they won 15 of 21 sets to break a three-way tie with their teammates.
Two newcomers were part of the team that took second place.
Matthew Armbruster,
David Tesic and
Mihajlo Drobnjakovic combined to win 13 of 20 sets on the tournament.
Max Heinzel,
Luke Joujan and
Dhruv Tangri combined for the team that finished third. Tangri won his singles debut and teamed with Joujan for a doubles victory on the opening day.
WOMEN'S TRIO FINISHES THIRD
Ank Vullings,
Salma Abdelrahim and
Estelle Vanthier went 10-3 in sets and earned six points over the weekend. Vullings and Abdelrahim both won their singles fall debuts. Abdelrahim persevered in a 10-6 third set tiebreak.
Lina Hohnhold,
Mar Gendra and
Lea Alguacil made up another squad and they also had a strong opening statement in singles. Hohnhold and Gendra both won their singles matches on Friday and they finished the tournament with eight sets won out of 13 played.

"It was a lot of tennis played and a different format than what we're used to but I thought overall we played very well across the board. It gave a chance to see everyone in different situations."
