NEW ORLEANS – After a delayed start due to Hurricane Ida, the New Orleans Privateers men's and women's tennis teams will get their fall season underway this weekend when they head to Pensacola, Fla. for the Bluewater Bay Classic.
Both teams will be facing the host, West Florida and West Alabama during the weekend. The women's team will also get an early look at one of their conference foes in Southeastern.
For the women, they will hit the court for the first time since a historic season that saw them win a share of their first Southland regular season championship.
Lina Hohnhold, who was the Southland and LSWA Newcomer of the Year will be making her season debut.
Ank Vullings,
Lea Alguacil and
Salma Abdelrahim who were each all-Southland selections last season will be playing this weekend along with
Estelle Vanthier and
Mar Gendra.
The men's side features several newcomers, three of whom will be making their Privateers this weekend. True freshmen,
Matthew Armbruster and
Dhruv Tangri are slated to play this weekend. Also in the lineup is
David Tesic who transferred to the Privateers from Louisville.
Among the returners,
Marcel Volz who won Southland and LSWA Newcomer of the Year will make his fall debut.
Max Heinzel, a first team all-conference selection will also play this weekend along with
Luke Joujan,
Mihajlo Drobnjakovic and
Espen Lagarde.
