NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers will close out the regular season on Thursday night when they take on the Nicholls Colonels. Before the match,
Alexis Parrish,
Atira Jells,
Samantha Gioiosa and
Maxine Walsh will be honored as part of Senior Night festivities.
SENIOR NIGHT
The senior class had many contributions to the program. Walsh returned after being an all-conference selection with the beach volleyball program and has 38 blocks in 46 sets. Jells has 107 kills this season and is second on the team in total blocks with 56.
Parrish had 29 kills in her first two matches as a Privateer and this season has recorded six matches of double-digit kills with 156 total. Gioiosa played six matches (three starts) in 2020 and registered 29 digs in that span.
CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT AWAITS
The Privateers will be heading to Houston after Thursday's match to take part in the Southland Tournament. Their seeding and opponent are yet to be determined. The tournament starts on Nov. 18 at Sharp Gym.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Sheilah Purcell is averaging 4.94 digs per set this season. If Purcell gets to 5.00 digs per set, she would be the second Privateer all-time to average 5.00 digs per set in a single season, joining Jayne Duncan who accomplished the feat twice.
Trinity Jackson has registered seven double-doubles this season. Jackson posted her most recent double-double with 10 kills and 13 digs against McNeese on Saturday, Nov. 6.
