WACO, Texas – The New Orleans men's and women's cross country teams, two squads that have rewritten the record book at just about every meet this year, made sure they ended their 2021 campaign with a bang as both groups set new school records for best regional championship finish in program history as the Privateers competed at the 2021 NCAA Division I South Central Regionals at Cottonwood Creek Golf Course on Friday.
The women got the day started with a ninth-place finish (besting its old school mark by three spots) while the men ended things with a ninth-place showing of their own (an improvement of 10 spots over its previous program-best) as the Privateers put a wrap on a truly special 2021 season.

- On the men's side, the group was paced by
Kolyn Saltzman who captured the second All-Region honors of his career as he took 21st overall at 31:39.5. It was a four-spot improvement from his first appearance at regionals back in 2019.
- The other four New Orleans male student-athletes in the race all ran to personal bests as
Cade Litolff claimed 39th (32:18.5),

NEXT UP
That might just be it for the Privateers cross country season, as just Kleshchukova has a chance to sneak her way into the 2021 NCAA Division I National Championships. She finished as the fifth-best individual in the South Central region and can become the only student-athlete in school history to advance to two national championships in her career. More will be known when the NCAA hosts its selection show on Saturday, Nov. 13.
For the rest of the group, the attention now turns to the track as New Orleans will look to carry this strong momentum into the indoor and outdoor seasons.
