Track & Field Program’s Improve in USTFCCCA Regional Rankings; Men Ranked Nationally for First Time in School History

NEW ORLEANS – After one of the best all-around meets in recent memory, the New Orleans men's and women's track & field programs received some of the highest regional marks in school history and the men's team appeared in the national rankings for the first time ever as the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released their latest NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field National TFRI and regional marks on Monday.

The men's program was ranked 23rd in the South Central Region, ahead of conference foes Northwestern State, McNeese, UIW and A&M-Corpus Christi. It was a two-spot improvement from last week and the best mark for the Privateers since the Week 5 rankings of the 2017 season. The ranking also ties a program record for best regional rank in school history.

The men's program also cracked into the national rankings for the first time in school history as the group entered at No. 112 in all of NCAA Division I Track & Field.

The women's team saw an even bigger rise than the men's as the Privateers climbed six spots to rank 18th in the South Central. It was the sixth-best mark among Southland school and put New Orleans as one of the top-ranked teams in the state, ahead of UL-Louisiana, McNeese, Nicholls, Tulane and Louisiana Tech. The rank is the best mark received by the squad since the Week 6 rankings of 2017.

New Orleans student-athletes will get a week off from competition before the Privateers return for the Samford Invitational No. 2 that runs Friday, Feb. 12 through Saturday, Feb. 13 at the Birmingham Crossplex in Birmingham, Ala.
