Privateers Sit in Fourth After Day One of Gulf Coast Collegiate

DAY ONE RESULTS

DIAMONDHEAD – A pair of Privateer golfers finished inside the top ten while the team placed fourth following the first day of the Gulf Coast Collegiate in Diamondhead, Miss.

Grayson Gilbert finished his day tied for fifth after rounds of 75 and 70 for a final tally of 145 – one above par. Over the two rounds the Monroe native sank eight birdies including six in the second round. Gilbert made birdie putts on holes 1, 6, 9, 16 and 17 in round two.

Florian Moosmeier was just one stroke behind Grayson shooting a 68 and 78 for a total of 146 tying him for seventh place. Flo led the tournament for the first 15 holes before finishing the first round in second place overall. Moosmeier had six first round birdies including three in a row on holes 15, 16 and 17. The junior's first round score of 68 tied Central Arkansas' Nate Jolly (second round), and Southeastern's Cameron Mobley for the best round of the day.

William Wargen had some of the most impressive moments of the day for UNO, sinking three different putts of over 30 feet, the second of which came on the Privateers best hole of the day - Thomas Artigas, Lukas Heckmann, Moosmeier, and Wargen all made birdies on hole ten during round two while Gilbert made par.

NOTES
-
Moosmeier's nine birdies leads the tournament, while Grayson's eight tie him for second in that category.
- Lukas Heckmann was a late addition to the starting lineup replacing Brady Bennett.
- Brendan Winters made his collegiate debut shooting a 184.

HEAD COACH JEFF LORIO
"I'm really pleased with how we competed today. Things were going our way early this morning, but the guys fought through it and finished with a flurry of birdies on the last two holes. This afternoon we had it under par most of the round – we just got a little sloppy at the end hit a few too many balls out of bounds."

"I know that the guys are determined to come out tomorrow and post a great score to see if we can catch a few teams ahead of us."

(on Wargen's long putts)
"William really kept us in it with some great putting. He can really get hot with the putter and it showed today. He made several 40 footers just when we needed him to keep the momentum going. We will need that kind of performance from the other guys tomorrow to catch the leaders."
