NEW ORLEANS - Privateer Golf matched their best round of the season so far and two
Privateers finished inside the top 20 on the first day of the Big Texan in Kerrville, Texas.
For the first time since the Gulf Coast Collegiate, the squad finished a round below 300 after sinking 13 birdies and shooting a 297 during the opening round on Monday morning. New Orleans finished the day with a score of 599 and tied for sixth place with UIW going into the final round tomorrow.
Florian Moosmeier led the way individually for the Privateers carding 142 after two rounds of one-under par (71). Flo finished the first round tied for fifth and the day in tied for third place overall. The junior made six birdies and shot par or better on all but three holes on Monday. Moosmeier finished his day at five-under on par-four holes - the best mark of any individual in the tournament on par fours after day one.
Coming off his tournament victory last week, sophomore
Grayson Gilbert finished his day inside the top 20 (tied for 18th) with rounds of 74 and 75 with five birdies.
Lukas Heckmann, who hovered around the top 20 for most of the day, also added five birdies for the Privateers.

"Tough day today. We didn't do anything really bad but also didn't do anything very good. I thought we gave ourselves enough chances on the greens but didn't take advantage of those opportunities. It's one of those days where I felt we shot about the most we could have shot given how we hit it. Some days are like that. We have to finish better tomorrow."
