FRISCO, Texas – For the second consecutive year, the New Orleans Privateers earned Southland Tennis Student-Athlete of the Year.
Johannes Klein was one of two representatives on the Southland All-Academic Team and earned the prestigious honor on Wednesday.
Klein finishes his Privateer career as a three-time Southland All-Academic member. He also earned Southland First Team All-Conference honors during a strong season for the Privateers.
An accounting major, Klein currently has a 3.90 cumulative GPA. The Germany native has also earned First Team All-Southland in doubles (2019) and LSWA Honorable Mention ('19). He becomes the second Privateer men's student-athlete to earn the award, joining
Hossam Meligy (2013).
Max Heinzel also made the Southland All-Academic First Team. A sophomore in the classroom, Heinzel is currently carrying a 3.90 in Business Administration.
On the court, Heinzel dominated his conference foes during the regular season, going undefeated on his way to winning Southland Conference First Team recognition in singles. Heinzel went 9-2 in his first full collegiate season on the court.
The Privateers earned a Student-Athlete of the Year award in 2020 as well when Ank Vullings won the distinction.
Since 2013, the Privateers have earned 18 Southland All-Academic spots.
