Track & Field Advances Two to Quarterfinals on Opening Night of NCAA East Prelims

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The New Orleans track & field program had another record-setting day as Ismael Kone and Elliott Cummings advanced to the men's 100-meter quarterfinals and Alec Snell and Vojislav Gvero capped off stellar outdoor campaigns as the Privateers competed at the opening day of the 2021 NCAA Division I East Preliminary Round at Hodges Stadium on Wednesday.

NOTABLES
- Kone shattered the record book once again as he posted a new personal best and school record time of 10.14 in the first round of the men's 100-meter dash. The showing slotted him second in his heat and sixth overall out of the 48 competitors. - Cummings will join Kone in the quarters as he ran to an 18th-place finish in the 100 with a mark of 10.25. He just missed out on a new personal best by .01 seconds. - Snell ended his sophomore season at 33rd overall in the men's 800-meter as he posted a time of 1:51.56. His standout year was highlighted by his first trip to regionals, a Southland Conference 800-meter title and school records in both the 800 (outdoor) and mile (indoor). - Gvero wrapped up his outstanding outdoor season with a 35th-place finish in the men's hammer throw at 58.53m (192-0). The performance capped a year that saw him place second at the Southland Outdoor Championships in the hammer and third in the weight throw during indoors. He also set new school records across both events. The showing today was his best career finish at the preliminary meet, as it topped his finish of 41st overall in 2019.

Kone and Cummings will take to the line for a chance for a trip to the NCAA National Championships in Eugene, Ore. with the men's 100-meter quarterfinals on Friday, May 28 at 6:05 PM CT (7:05 PM ET).
