NEW ORLEANS – University of New Orleans Vice President of Athletics and Recreation
Tim Duncan announced Tuesday
that Kelvin Queliz has been promoted to Associate Athletic Director for Marketing, Communications and Digital
, effective immediately. He will also continue to serve as the sport administrator for the Privateers golf program.
Queliz, who begins his fifth year on the Lakefront, has turned the New Orleans Athletic Communications Office into a digital-first department to better serve UNO student-athletes. This push has included the Privateers first regionally-broadcasted cable TV show (Inside #NOLAsTeam), a move to the ESPN family with all New Orleans home contests being featured nationally on ESPN+ in 2021-22, to go with a social media charge that has seen the Privateers add over 60,000 followers across their social media accounts.
Queliz also serves as a leader in college athletics in helping student-athletes maximize their potential with his partnership with Opendorse and other soon-to-be-announced platforms that will allow New Orleans student-athletes to reach their full potential across social platforms.
"Kelvin Queliz is a star in our business, not a rising one, but a legitimate star," Duncan said. "He is a leader with vision for the external areas of the department and has earned this opportunity by managing marketing, communications, creative and digital content areas at an extremely high level well
before receiving this promotion."
"He has cultivated great relationships with student-athletes, coaches and members of the Privateer community while demonstrating tremendous, strategic positioning of the #NOLAsTeam brand to the cutting edge of intercollegiate athletics," Duncan added. "He is a key member of my Executive Team and I look forward to continuing to pour everything we have into his development."
"Our goal has always been to maximize exposure and I want to thank Tim Duncan for the trust in me to continue to lead the marketing, communications and digital units," Queliz said. "Our priority is and will continue to be telling the amazing stories of our student-athletes that represent #NOLAsTeam.
"
In his new role, Queliz will continue to lead the New Orleans athletic department's marketing, communications, and creative offices. The New York City native will be responsible for the numerous external marketing and publicity efforts serving the department.
Hired in September 2017, Queliz has had stints as the Assistant AD at Texas A&M University-Kingsville, Florida Tech and the City College of New York to go with roles at Louisiana Tech, the Philadelphia 76ers and the University of Delaware.
To go with his work in the office, Queliz has been an active member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) for nine years.
