NEW ORLEANS – The Privateers men's tennis team has added their second transfer for the upcoming 2021-22 season. Akos Kotorman has signed with the squad, transferring in from nearby Tulane.
Kotorman had several accolades to his name before beginning tennis at the collegiate level. A native of Hungary, Kotorman won six Hungarian national championships between singles and doubles. He was also a European champion in doubles at age 14 and he finished third in the same event at 16.
In that same time span, Kotorman achieved an ITF ranking of as high as 62. He has won Grade 3 and 4 ITF tournaments and has played four semifinals between Grade 2 and 1 tournaments. Kotorman was also on the Hungarian Davis Cup practice squad in 2016 where he got the chance to practice with two current ATP Top 150 players, Marton Fucsovics and Attila Balzas.
"Akos is one of the highest ranked recruits in my career," said coach
Burzis Kanga. "He will be challenging for the top spot. Akos is an accomplished player who has a great game in singles and doubles. His presence will hopefully bring us a step closer to winning a championship. He has also played for two excellent teams in Baylor and Tulane."
Kotorman was with the Green Wave since 2018. He accrued 40 career overall doubles victories and was part of a nationally ranked doubles team along with Hamish Stewart. The tandem was ranked 59
th in the ITA at the beginning of the fall.
At Baylor, Kotorman debuted with the Bears to the tune of seven singles wins and 16 in doubles. He also posted two wins at the ITA Collegiate Tennis Challenge at Indian Wells.
