NEW ORLEANS – Three sports are in action this week as volleyball takes to the road for two matches, golf is participating in the Derek Dolnec Invitational and cross country runs in the Live in Louisville Classic.
Also, the Fifth Annual Privateer Golf Classic will be on Thursday at Bayou Oaks at City Park. The 19
th hole jamboree afterward will feature the Peyton Falgoust Band.
VOLLEYBALL
The Privateers volleyball team will look to build off their winning start to the Southland slate when they travel for two matches this week. New Orleans will face HBU on Thursday (6:30 p.m.) and McNeese on Saturday (1 p.m.).
New Orleans scored a victory in their opening conference match by a 3-1 score line on Saturday and they defeated Nicholls for the sixth time in their last seven meetings.
Kai Williams had 14 kills while
Sh'Diamond Holly added 12 kills and seven blocks.
The match against HBU features the top two teams in the Southland in digs per set. The Privateers are second at 15.7 digs per set while the Huskies pace the eight-team conference at 16.6 digs per set. Individually,
Sheilah Purcell,
Trinity Jackson and
Rita Zecchin are all in the top ten in the conference in digs.
In 2019, New Orleans scored wins over both programs. The Privateers split a pair of matches against HBU and won their only contest against McNeese. Both victories came at the Human Performance Center.
GOLF
Two weeks ago, the Privateers had one of the best performances of Coach Lorio's tenure finishing with an 853 at the Golfweek Fall Challenge in South Carolina. The mark tied the fourth-best score in school history.
Senior
Brady Bennett had a career-best third round 66 and led the Privateers after he finished tied for ninth with a 208 - tied for the sixth-best 54-hole school in program history.

CROSS COUNTRY
The New Orleans cross country program will head north for one of the top meets of the season as the Privateers are set to do battle at the Live in Lou Classic, hosted in Louisville, on Saturday, Oct. 2.
The meet will be run at the prestigious E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park, the home of the 2012, 2015 and 2017 NCAA Division I Cross Country National Championships.
The women's race will take place over a 5,000-meter course while the men will do battle over an 8,000-meter distance.
Due to the great interest in the meet, race seeding for all races will not be announced until Tuesday, Sept. 28 on the Lou Cross Country Classic website, located here.
The information will also be posted to the New Orleans Cross Country schedule page as soon as it is available.
Both the men's and women's squads are coming off second-place finishes to open the year at the LSU Invite.
