NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team will play their home opener on Monday when they take on the Prairie View A&M Panthers at the University Tennis Center. The match is scheduled to get underway at 12 p.m.
The Privateers (3-0) enjoyed a clean sweep over Alcorn State in their last match on Friday. New Orleans won both ends of a doubleheader by scores of 7-0 and 4-0 against the Braves.
Two newcomers have gotten off to 2-0 starts in singles this season.
Dhruv Tangri and
David Tesic have both won each of their first two singles matches on the year. Tangri and Tesic are also 1-0 on the season in doubles.
Akos Kotorman has gone 3-0 in doubles with two different teammates, all at flight one. Kotorman has won two matches with
Max Heinzel and one with
Espen Lagarde.
New Orleans is 4-0 against the Panthers since 2000. The last time the two teams played was in the 2020 season that was shortened due to the pandemic. The Privateers scored a 7-0 victory on Jan. 21, 2020.
The Panthers have already played a rugged schedule and are 0-10 on the season. Prairie View A&M has faced the likes of SMU, Arizona, Rice and UT-Arlington. They also played Southland foe, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi twice.
