NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers (11-10, 5-4) are back home for a pair of matches against the UIW Cardinals and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders. Thursday's match against UIW will take place at 11 a.m. The Saturday bout against the Islanders will go at 1 p.m.
POTENTIAL PROGRAM RECORD
New Orleans is 7-0 at home this season between the Lakefront Arena and Human Performance Center. With wins in both matches this week, the Privateers will have their best home start in history, surpassing the 8-0 marks in 1998 and 2004.
PREVIEWING THE WEEK
The Privateers are looking to bounce back after a tough week on the road with losses to Lamar and HCU. Heading into the week, New Orleans is in a tie for fourth in the Southland standings.
Sophia Ewalefo enters the week with a team-best 197 kills. Ewalefo recorded her seven double-double of the season against HCU with 13 kills and 13 digs. Ewalefo also has posted 181 digs on the year.
The Privateers are 19
th in the nation in digs per set at 16.45. As a squad, they recorded 70 digs against HCU.
Sheilah Purcell posted 17 digs at the Huskies. For her career, Purcell has registered 808 digs in 184 sets (4.39 per set).
Mauri Carver heads into the week averaging .99 blocks per set. Carver is the leader in the Southland in solo blocks with 28.
New Orleans defeated UIW in the first meeting in five sets. The Privateers lost 3-0 to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the first meeting this season.
ABOUT THE COMPETITION
UIW is coming off a 3-1 victory over Southeastern. Risa Sena recorded 16 kills with 13 digs while Annamarie Alvarez led the team with 17 kills. Taylor Stoops is 44
th in the nation and second in the conference in aces per set.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi is 7-2 in conference play after going 0-14 through a non-conference slate that was in the top 40 in difficulty in the nation. The Islanders have swept their last three opponents (UIW, HCU, Nicholls).
