NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers hit the road for a pair of matches against Texas A&M-Commerce and Northwestern State. The Privateers start with the new Southland member Lions on Tuesday at 6 p.m. and head to Prather Coliseum to face the Lady Demons on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
On Saturday, the Privateers will host Northwestern State at the Human Performance Center with a 1 p.m. scheduled start.
PREVIEW
It's the penultimate week of the regular season and another three-match week. The other three-match week in league play came when New Orleans went 2-1, collecting wins over Nicholls and Southeastern before falling to McNeese.
The Privateers currently sit fifth in the conference standings, one game ahead of both squads whom they will play this week.
Heading into the week, New Orleans is one of four teams in the Southland to have held collective opponents under a .200 attack percentage. Their 16.41 digs per set rank third in the conference behind standings co-leaders, McNeese and HCU.
Mauri Carver enters the week in the top 10 in the Southland in both hitting percentage (seventh) and blocks per set (ninth). Carver's 87 total blocks place her in seventh.
With three more digs,
Sheilah Purcell will eclipse 900 total for her career. Purcell had 38 digs across six sets against Southeastern and McNeese.
ABOUT THE COMPETITION
Texas A&M-Commerce (10-17, 6-7) snapped a three-game losing streak with a sweep of UIW on Saturday in San Antonio. Taryn Cast is sixth in the league in blocks per set at 1.01 while Lyric Hebert ranks fifth in digs per set (4.32).
Northwestern State (13-11, 6-7) is looking to get back on track after having lost four of their last five contests. Reaghan Thompson has the second best hitting percentage in the conference at .326. Thompson also has 1.01 blocks per set this year.
