Privateers Have Successful Day Against Southland Foe, Nicholls

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers men's and women's tennis teams had an overall successful day in two dual matches against the Nicholls Colonels on a mostly sunny Friday at the Privateer Tennis Center.
 
The men swept singles in the morning and afternoon sessions. The women won five out of six doubles matches between both sessions.
 
NOTABLES
The Privateer men dropped only one set in the morning session of singles. Five of the seven singles matches contested were decided with just four or fewer games conceded.
 
Diane Bredberg Canizares and Raluca Puscas went 2-0 in their doubles matches on the day at flight three. Puscas also scored a singles win against Carla Bouygues by winning a third set tiebreak 11-9.
 
Espen Lagarde only lost four games between two singles matches on the day. He defeated Griffin Babineaux 6-1, 6-0 and moved up a flight to beat Quentin Lamothe 6-2, 6-1.
 
It was the first look at a Southland opponent for the men's team this fall in their second tournament of the fall season.
 
Tristanne Dechoux, making her first appearance at home since April 2021 went 2-0 in doubles. Dechoux was a part of two doubles wins at flight two in the morning and flight one in the afternoon.
 
Max Heinzel was pushed to the limit before his opponent, Omar Morsy had to retire due to injury in a third set 10-point tiebreak. Heinzel won 6-1, 6-1 in singles during the morning session.

Both teams will travel to the ITA Regionals next week. The men will be in Tuscaloosa while the women will head to Baton Rouge.
