NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers women's basketball team (1-2) continues their SWAC road swing on Tuesday when they head to Lorman, Miss. to face the Alcorn State Braves (1-3). Tip is scheduled for 6 p.m.
DeArica Pryor comes in fresh off earning her second Southland Player of the Week award since coming to the Lakefront. The senior guard averaged 21.5 points per game in two contests and had a career-high 29 against South Alabama. Through the first two weeks of the season, Pryor leads the Southland in scoring. She also had a career-best nine rebounds against Grambling.
Nora Francois has been on the doorstep of her first double-double as a Privateer in the last two games. Francois went for 12 points and nine rebounds against South Alabama. She followed that with 13 points and nine rebounds at Grambling last Friday.
The Privateers have played 28 games against the SWAC after Friday and they are 13-15 all-time. The series against the Braves is tied 3-3 with both teams protecting their home court. New Orleans is 3-0 at home while Alcorn State is 2-0 at home. The other win was at a neutral site for the Braves.
Francois and
Justice Ross enter the week both in the top six in the Southland in rebounding. Francois is sixth in the conference while Ross ranks third. Francois is also second in the conference in offensive rebounding (3.0 per game).
Alcorn State is coming off their first win of the season, a 100-61 thumping of Arkansas Baptist. The Braves have lost road games at Tulsa, Wichita State and Illinois.
Through four games, the Braves have averaged just over 22 free throw attempts per game but they are only converting on 59.6 percent of those attempts.
12 different players have started a game and nobody has started all four games for Alcorn State. Only two players (Nakia Cheatham and Tyginae Wright) average more than 20 minutes per game. Destiny Brown (8.8 points per game) is the team's leading scorer.
