Women's Basketball Opens Southland Slate at HCU

HOUSTON, Texas – The New Orleans Privateers women's basketball team (1-8) starts Southland play on Saturday when they face the HCU Huskies (5-6) at Sharp Gym. Tip is scheduled for 12 p.m. for the conference opener.
 
New Orleans will play their first game in ten days after a heartbreaking end to non-conference play: a 64-60 overtime loss at the hands of Hofstra. DeArica Pryor posted her third 20-point effort of the season. It was also Pryor's ninth double-digit scoring effort this season. The Iowa native is second in the conference in scoring at 16.3 points per game.
 
Zoe Cooper had a strong road trip against Rutgers and Hofstra. Cooper posted 18 points and 14 rebounds against Rutgers and Hofstra. Cooper went 8-for-12 from the field in those two games and is shooting 50 percent from the field this season.
 
HCU leads the all-time series 6-4 against the Privateers. There have been five meetings in Sharp Gym with three going to the Huskies.
 
New Orleans has played in two overtime games this season. It's the first time they've played multiple overtime games in a season since 2006-07.
 
The Privateers enter the conference slate first in the league in offensive rebounding. Three Privateers individually (Cooper, Tara Green and Nora Francois) rank in the top ten in offensive rebounds per game.
 
HCU is second in the conference in three-point field goal percentage and first in made three-pointers with 78. HCU is also the best free throw shooting team in the Southland, hitting at a 73.3 percent clip from the charity stripe.
 
Julia Vujakovic and N'Denasija Collins are both in the top five in the conference in scoring. They average 12.6 and 12.5 points per game respectively. Collins is also hitting 54.1 percent of her shots from the field this season, second best in the league.
