Track and Field Announces 2023 Schedule

2023 TRACK & FIELD SCHEDULE

NEW ORLEANS –
Following another highly successful Cross Country campaign University of New Orleans Track and Field / Cross Country Head Coach Brock Moreaux announced his 2023 Track and Field schedule on Thursday afternoon.

The Indoor season features seven meets in four different states and kicks off on Jan. 13 in Baton Rouge at the Carl Maddox Field House for the LSU Purple Tiger. A week later the Privateers will head to the familiar Birmingham CrossPlex for the Samford Invite on Jan 20-21. A trip to Bloomington closes out January for the New Orleans sprinters and jumpers at Harry Gladstein Fieldhouse for the Indiana Relays on Jan. 27-28.

Six days later the Privateer distance squads will open February at Boston University for the Bruce Lehane Scarlet and White Invite on Feb. 4. The teams will reunite on Feb. 10-11 for another trip to Birmingham, Ala. for the Samford Bulldog Invite. The penultimate indoor meet of the season takes place on Feb. 17 in Baton Rouge for the LSU Twilight.

New Orleans will return to the Birmingham CrossPlex for a third time in two months on Feb. 26-27 for the 2022 Southland Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships. Both the men's and women's teams will be looking to improve on last year's record point totals at the event.

The Outdoor seasons kicks off on March 17-18 in Lafayette for the Louisiana Classics. New Orleans' third trip of the year to LSU comes a week later on March. 25 for the Battle on the Bayou.

Perhaps the highlight of the outdoor season will be the Privateers appearance at the 95th Annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays presented by Truism – the most prestigious track and field meet in collegiate athletics. During last season's Texas Relays current Privateers Kolyn Saltzman and Alexandra Weir both finished third in the Steeplechase, and 1500M respectively.

About two weeks later the team will travel to Azusa, Calif and make its first ever appearance at the nationally competitive Bryan Clay Invitational on April 12-14. Privateers not making the trip to the Golden State will make the much quicker journey up I-55 for the Strawberry Relays hosted by Southeastern on April 15.

The team will again split on April 22 with the distance runners headed to Houston, Texas for Rice's Fred Duckett at Twilight, and the sprinters, jumpers and throwers headed up to Baton Rouge for a fourth time for LSU's Alumni Gold.

The 2023 Southland Outdoor Championships are set for May 4-6 and will be hosted by league newcomer Texas A&M-Commerce at Memorial Stadium in Commerce, Texas. The Privateers finished fifth on the men's side last season with 104 points, and fourth on the women's side with 94 points with a combined 22 podium finishes.

The NCAA East Preliminary is set for May 24-27 at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla. While the NCAA Championships are set for June 7-10 in Austin, Texas at Mike A. Myers Stadium & Soccer Field.

The Bruce Lehane Scarlet and White Invite, as well as the Bryan Clay invitational are set to be broadcast online by FloTrack. ESPN+ will broadcast both the Indoor and Outdoor Southland Championships, as well as the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays with select coverage being made available on one of ESPN's linear networks.

More information about meet schedules, live coverage and New Orleans Track & Field will be made available as it becomes available.

HEAD COACH BROCK MOREAUX
"We are really excited as a team and staff to be fortunate enough to put together a quality schedule like this for our Track & Field student-athletes. We will have a great mix of in-state competitions and high quality out of state competitions specific to each event group. This will give each group the opportunity to compete in some of the most quality races in the country."

"Indoors will be highlighted by the Indiana Relays and Boston Scarlet and White Invite. The Indiana Relays will be specific for our sprints and jumps groups while the trip to Boston will be specific for our distance groups. Both meets have some of the best competitions in the NCAA and will allow our teams to shoot for big times/marks mid-season before we start to get ready for our championship season."

"In Outdoor we have a competitive schedule all around but a pair of meets really stand out for us - the Texas Relays and the Bryan Clay Invitational. These are two of the most competitive meets in the country and will be integral in accomplishing our team goals on the Regional and National level."
