Men's Tennis Hits Road for Matches vs. Citadel, South Carolina State

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team will look to begin a new winning streak on Wednesday when they travel to South Carolina to face The Citadel. The Privateers will follow with a Friday match against South Carolina State. Both matches are scheduled for 2 p.m.

The Privateers (8-1) suffered their first loss in a hard fought battle against Rice on Sunday. Espen Lagarde won the lone point for New Orleans who took the Owls to the limit in doubles and extended three singles matches to three sets.

Lagarde has won three consecutive matches in singles heading into the week and is 5-2 on the season. He is one of six Privateers with at least five singles victories thus far in 2022.

Marcel Volz paces the squad with seven wins in singles. In doubles, Volz's mark is equally as impressive at 6-1. He and Lagarde won their doubles match against Rice on Sunday, making him the third different Privateer Volz has won a doubles match with this year.

Both opponents will be new to the Privateers. Since records have been available, New Orleans has not played either The Citadel or South Carolina State.

The Citadel is 1-7 on the season, with their lone victory coming against USC Sumter. South Carolina State (2-1) most recently was defeated by North Florida on Feb. 21. The Bulldogs have won against The Citadel and USC Sumter.
