NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers beach volleyball team provided a stern test for the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders and defeated the Southeastern Lady Lions on the second day of the HBU Tournament. The Privateers finished the tournament at 2-2.
PRIVATEERS DEFEAT SOUTHEASTERN
New Orleans ended the weekend with a 4-1 win against Southeastern. The Privateers got straight set victories at flight one, three and five.
Ania Esarte and
Lucie Pokorna finished the weekend with a 3-1 record after recording a win at flight one on the day.
Alexa Spartz and
Trinity Jackson also finished the first weekend 3-1 while paired together at flight three.
Valerie Vujnovich and
Serena Baumgart teamed up for their first win of the weekend as they posted a 2-0 victory at flight five.
Liz Gialanella and Taylor Louviere won their second match of the weekend when they scored a three-set victory at flight four to give the Privateers their fifth consecutive win on the sand against Southeastern.
PRIVATEERS FALL IN TOUGH TEST VS. ISLANDERS
The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders won 4-1 against New Orleans to secure an undefeated weekend in Houston.
Maxine Walsh and
Hannah Volpi provided the lone point for the Privateers when they rallied from a set down to win 18-21, 21-16, 15-11.
Esarte and Pokorna stretched their opponents to extra rallies in the second set but were ultimately handed their first defeat of the season 21-17, 25-23.
Jackson and Spartz also forced extra rallies in the second set but were defeated 21-17, 22-20 at flight three. The Islanders also won in straight sets at flight four and five to earn the victory.
NEXT UP
The Privateers will head to Mobile to take part in the Spring Hill Beach Bash. The tournament will start on Thursday, Mar. 3.
