CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The New Orleans Privateers beach volleyball team was locked in a fierce battle but lost a 3-2 decision to the HCU Huskies that came down to the final match on Wednesday at Water's Edge Park.
At flight one, the two teams' top pairs went at each other in a ferocious battle. Cassie and
Ellie Sieling rallied from down a set to take the second 21-16. In the third set, which was also the match decider, the twin sisters rallied from down 8-4 early to force extra rallies.
There were 10 combined match point opportunities between the two sides in extra rallies that were saved, but HCU pulled through a third set that went to 25-23.
The first two sets of matches were split each way as both teams traded momentum throughout the morning.
HCU got the first point on the board with a 21-14, 21-16 win at flight four but the Privateers responded through
Ashley Salazar and
Brooke Dow. The duo went to extra rallies in both sets, but prevailed in both to win 24-22, 22-20.
The Huskies went back ahead 2-1 in the match when they notched a 21-16, 21-11 victory at flight three. New Orleans came right back with a strong third set performance from
Jordan Madsen and
Lindsey Neal.
The Privateers' flight five duo won 21-18, 17-21, 15-10 to set up the match deciding point at flight one.

The Privateers will play McNeese in an elimination match on Thursday at 11 a.m.
